What They’re Saying
My Principles
Product Efficiency and Usability
Products are marked as efficient when it solves the problems of the users in the most simplified manner. And one of my responsibilities is to help facilitate the delivery of this. It’s about designing the right things and designing them correctly.
Empathize
As product-focused person, I represent those whose voices are not in the room. I have the ability to put myself in another person’s shoes. Because the role of a designer is essentially to solve user/customers’ problems. To do this effectively, you have to understand those problems on a deep, emotional level, and this requires empathy.
Zooming In and Out
When analyzing things I use both a macro and micro lens. I see the high level 30,000-feet view of the product and where it fits in the market, but I can also drop down into the minute details like micro copy on the screen. Details make the difference. This allows me to navigate the product landscape and apply quality craftsmanship to the product on every level.
Storytelling
As a designer, it is my responsibility to tell the story. This starts with understanding the problem (who are the actors and what they are trying to accomplish). This is especially helpful when we are breaking new ground with a new proof of concept.
Designing with Business Sense
While users are the center of all the products I design, business is also on my radar. A designer must advocate for both. One of my goals is to generate revenue by delivering value to users. Users come first, but the business facilitates the whole exchange. In order to accomplish this successfully, I must know the business context, the value proposition, the business model, and how this keeps the company afloat.
